Savannah Edwards could confidently say that there wasn't much in the multiverse that truly scared her these days. Even before the day she accepted Sheol's invitation, she was feared throughout her homeland as the Pink Witch, a mythical mistress of magic who had seduced and enslaved countless men and women over the course of centuries. And now that she’d joined the Interdimensional Dominatrix Council and gained allies and resources she never could have imagined in her old life, her magical power and versatility had grown by leaps and bounds.

But if there was anything out there that could still make her fear for her life, it could probably be found somewhere in the S-locked worlds.

While members of the IDC were mostly free to explore whatever parallel universes they wanted, there were a few select worlds that Sheol herself had sealed off access to, deeming them so dangerous that she simply couldn’t risk letting their denizens sneak through a portal into another realm. Interstellar empires of order and chaos waging eternal war against each other, roaming gods of gold and silver willing to sacrifice countless worlds to achieve their goals, shadowy organizations on a never-ending quest to contain and suppress all paranormal activity - if it was behind an S-lock, there was a good chance it could destroy entire universes if left unchecked.

[Super Smash Bros] Kinktober 2019 Prompt 30: Love

Bayonetta would be the first to admit she wasn’t particularly accustomed to losing. As the last of the Umbra Witches, she was an exceptionally powerful combatant capable of tearing through armies of Paradiso’s strongest angels with contemptuous ease. She’d killed no less than two gods, and she’d once literally traveled to Inferno and back to save her best friend Jeanne’s soul from the demon who claimed it. To suggest that there was a challenge she couldn’t rise to beat would be taken as a grave insult.

Granted, her ego had taken a bit of a hit ever since she was invited to the legendary interdimensional tournament known as Super Smash Bros. She’d shown up expecting to enjoy a long, uninterrupted winning streak, only to learn the hard way that the competition included two goddesses who could give Jubileus a run for her money, more than a few legendary heroes who had slain gods and demons alike, a turtle dragon who considered being thrown into the sun a mild annoyance, and… well, the less said about Kirby, the better.

Once she’d gotten over her initial overconfidence, however, she’d quickly found her groove and started racking up an impressive win-loss record. It wasn’t the complete and total domination she’d expected - and to be honest, she wasn’t sure her pride would ever recover from getting her ass kicked by a dog with a fishing rod - but it was enough that she could feel confident in calling herself one of the strongest fighters in the multiverse.

But right now, as she stood on the precipice of complete and utter defeat, she had to face the facts: she might have finally bitten off more than she could chew. Even with a goddess as her ally - and that was something she’d never expected to say in her life - the skill difference between herself and her opponents was simply too vast for her to overcome.

To say Mirellia Q. Melromarc was a tad overworked these days would be an understatement of biblical proportions. Between handling her standard duties as Queen of Melromarc, quashing the Church’s constant attempts to gain even more power, and trying to keep her power-crazed firstborn daughter in line, she had been running herself ragged for years even with the assistance of her Shadows.

Then, as if she wasn’t dealing with enough problems, the newest set of Waves had begun, and her idiot of a husband had summoned all four Legendary Heroes within Melromarc’s borders. The only reason she hadn’t rushed home and demanded to know what had possessed him to do something so monumentally stupid was because she was too busy trying to talk the leaders of every other country in the world out of declaring war over his actions - especially after word spread of her daughter’s little stunt with the Shield Hero.

And so, she’d begun a long, exhausting balancing act between managing foreign relations and trying to get a handle on her own country’s affairs. Half her time was spent negotiating with dignitaries and royals, persuading them that fighting the Waves would be a better use of their resources than beginning a doomed campaign against a kingdom defended by all four Heroes. The other half was spent using her Shadows to communicate with her contacts throughout Melromarc, calling upon them to aid the Shield Hero and mitigate the damage caused by the other three misguided Heroes.

Velma Dinkley was about as far from a superstitious person as you could get. From the day she was old enough to walk and talk, she’d dedicated practically every waking moment of her life to proving the supremacy of reason and scientific analysis in the face of irrational fear and supposedly unexplainable phenomena. And going by the hundreds upon hundreds of “monsters” she and her friends had exposed as common criminals in rubber masks over the years, she’d say she was doing a spectacular job so far.

But although she’d never admit it out loud, over the course of her long career as an amateur sleuth, she’d come to regard certain phrases as a guaranteed sign that things were about to go downhill fast. And chief among those phrases was the dreaded “Okay, gang, let’s split up and search for clues!” It never failed: she, Fred, and Daphne would head off one way, Shaggy and Scooby would go the other, and within five minutes at least three of them would be tied up, locked in a room, or chased around by some creep who thought dressing up like a B-movie creature was an important part of any successful real estate scam.

If only she’d known exactly how bad of an omen it would be this time around, she might have decided to take a page out of Scooby’s book and fake a sudden illness.

There was no shortage of reasons why someone might set out on a lengthy quest to find and unseal an ancient tomb. Some might be enticed by the prospect of untold treasure or potent magical artifacts hidden within - after all, anything guarded by such a powerful magic seal had to be either extremely valuable or extremely dangerous. For others, the possibility of unearthing long-forgotten records and knowledge of Hyrule’s distant past might prove a greater lure than wealth or power. And a select few might want to pry open the massive, carved stone doors and delve into the dark, monster-infested crypt for no greater reason than simple curiosity.

Out of those options, Link’s reasoning was probably closest to the third. For him, it was all about the challenge. As the bearer of the Triforce of Courage, it was in his very nature to seek out new, difficult tasks and complete them solely for the sake of completing them. Whether that meant exploring dungeons full of hellish beasts and lethal traps, hunting down hidden treasures that had been lost for centuries, or helping random people he met in villages with meaningless errands, he was the kind of person who simply couldn’t turn down a quest.

In this case, it meant spending a week traveling to the farthest corners of Hyrule, collecting a set of three colored stone carvings, and using them to open an ancient stone mausoleum he’d stumbled upon while exploring around the north face of Death Mountain. Even if there was nothing behind it but dirt and old bones, the journey alone would make for an interesting story to tell Zelda the next time he stopped by the castle.
